North-facing Wittevrouwen baths and deep canal-house cores need layered light, not a single ceiling glare. We place mirrors and fittings so two people can share a basin without casting shadows across each other’s faces. Expand the checklist below for how we write lighting notes for electricians.
Side light before overhead glare
Vertical LEDs beside a mirror give even face light for shaving and makeup. A lone downlight above the basin throws shadows under the brow and makes shared mornings harder. Schedules mark switch positions so a night path can run without flooding the whole room.
Colour temperature stays consistent across fittings; mixed warm and cool strips make tile samples look wrong after install.
Mirror size against narrow walls
Full-wall mirrors amplify small Utrecht rooms but can fight with medicine cabinets and extract grilles. We draw the clear rectangle above the vanity, including hinge clearance for mirrored doors.
Demisting pads are noted when the wet zone sits close to the glass; condensation in Dutch winters otherwise hides the reflection until mid-morning.
Daylight and roof windows
Loft baths with roof lights need night lighting that does not compete with glare from the opening. Wall washers and side strips keep the room usable after dark without aiming LEDs at the glass. Frosted film balances privacy and daylight when the roof faces a neighbouring ridge.
We photograph existing daylight at survey so finish colours are not chosen under studio lamps alone.
IP ratings and wet-zone rules
Lighting inside shower zones must meet Dutch electrical zones. Our drawings mark which fittings sit inside which zone; your electrician confirms compliance and product selection. Decorative pendants stay outside spray paths even when they look calm in photographs.
We do not install electrics; notes keep intent clear so the trade can price switches, drivers, and cable routes.
Light-only refresh scopes
When the shower and tile still work, a vanity, side mirrors, and a night switch can fix the morning queue. That brief often sits near Layout Light plus a lighting consult. Full packages include light positions when wet works and storage change together.
